Description
Kunzite
Kunzite is a beautiful gemstone known for its delicate pink, purplish-pink and violet colors. It is a variety of spodumene, a lithium aluminum silicate mineral, and is valued for its attractive color, transparency and glassy luster.
The color of kunzite is commonly associated with the presence of manganese. This gemstone exhibits noticeable pleochroism, meaning that its color can appear different when viewed from different directions. High-quality kunzite typically displays an attractive pink to violet color combined with good transparency and brilliance.
Kunzite can be sensitive to strong light and heat. Prolonged exposure to intense light may cause the color of some specimens to fade. It also has distinct cleavage, making it vulnerable to strong impacts. Care should therefore be taken during cutting, setting, transportation and everyday wear.
Important kunzite deposits have been found in countries such as Brazil, Afghanistan, Madagascar, Pakistan and the United States. Large, transparent kunzite crystals with attractive color and good clarity are particularly desirable for jewelry such as rings, necklaces and earrings.
In traditional beliefs, kunzite is associated with calmness, love and emotional balance. These associations are traditional beliefs and are not scientifically proven.
